Common Cents Act

This bill would stop the U.S. government from making new pennies for everyday use, though pennies would still be made for collectors and would still count as real money. When people pay for things with cash, the total would be rounded up or down to the nearest five cents. The bill also gives the Department of the Treasury the power to stop making other coins for everyday use, as long as it notifies Congress first. Additionally, the bill would allow nickels to be made from different materials than what is currently used.
