Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 23, 2026

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following information when you use The Floor:

  • Account information: Email address, name, and authentication data (managed by Clerk)
  • Location data: Your address or zip code, used solely to determine your congressional district, representative, and senators
  • Votes: Your Yes/No votes on bills
  • Comments: Text content you post in bill discussions
  • Notification data: Email preferences and, if you enable push notifications in the mobile app, an Expo push token and basic device metadata
  • Usage data: Anonymous analytics collected via Vercel Analytics to improve the platform

2. How We Use Your Information

  • Match you with your representative and senators based on your zip code
  • Calculate your alignment score with your members of Congress
  • Display aggregated, anonymized voting statistics (e.g., "72% voted Yes")
  • Send email or push notifications you've opted into (floor alerts, rep vote updates, Daily Floor reminders, and weekly digest)
  • Improve the platform through anonymous usage analytics

3. Information We Do Not Collect

  • We do not collect your precise location or GPS coordinates
  • Your self-reported party registration is optional and never shown publicly
  • We do not purchase data from third-party brokers
  • We do not use cookies for advertising or tracking across other sites

4. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with:

  • Clerk — Authentication provider (manages your login credentials)
  • Resend — Email delivery service (receives your email address to send notifications)
  • Expo — Push notification delivery for mobile devices when you opt in
  • Vercel — Hosting and anonymous analytics
  • Sentry — Error monitoring (receives anonymous error reports, not personal data)

Aggregated vote counts (e.g., total Yes/No per bill) are public. Your comments are displayed with the display name you choose. If you switch your profile to public, your recent votes and comments may also be visible from your public profile page.

5. Email Communications

We send transactional emails and optional mobile push notifications based on your notification preferences: floor vote alerts, representative vote notifications, Daily Floor reminders, and a weekly digest. You can manage these in your profile settings or unsubscribe via the link in any email. We comply with the CAN-SPAM Act.

6. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted on secure infrastructure. Authentication is handled by Clerk with industry-standard encryption. We use HTTPS for all data transmission. While we take reasonable measures to protect your data, no system is 100% secure.

7. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account in the mobile app, we remove your profile, votes, comments, badges, push devices, and Clerk login as part of the deletion flow. If you request deletion by email, we will remove your personal information within 30 days. Anonymized, aggregated data (vote totals, statistics) may be retained indefinitely.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Delete your account and associated data in the mobile app or request deletion by email
  • Opt out of email communications at any time
  • Export your voting data

To exercise any of these rights, use the in-app Profile settings or contact us at desk@thefloorhq.com. You can also review account deletion instructions at thefloorhq.com/account-deletion.

9. Children's Privacy

The Floor is not intended for users under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes via email. Continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
