Weather Radar Coverage Improvement Act

This bill requires the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to make a plan by September 30, 2040, to replace the current weather radar system called NEXRAD, which is a network of radars that detect rain and wind. The plan must include estimates of how much better the coverage and accuracy would be with a new system and look at whether commercial radars could be used instead of or along with government radars. The bill also allows the National Weather Service to hire outside companies to fill in areas where radar coverage has gaps so they can better detect important weather events across more areas.
