Payment Choice Act of 2025

This bill requires retail stores to accept cash for purchases of $500 or less made in person. Stores cannot charge cash customers more than customers who pay with cards or other methods. Stores can avoid this rule by providing on-site machines that give customers prepaid cards to use instead, as long as these cards don't have fees and require only $1 minimum payment. The bill allows people to sue stores that don't follow these rules and lets courts order penalties.
