I CAN Act

This bill changes Medicare and Medicaid rules to let nurses and other healthcare workers do certain jobs that currently only doctors can do. For example, nurse practitioners or physician assistants could approve special diabetic shoes for Medicare patients, and they could also run heart and lung rehabilitation programs. The bill also lets nurse practitioners decide when patients need to stay in the hospital under Medicare and Medicaid programs.
