REPLACE Act

The REPLACE Act automatically waives fees to replace certain federal documents like passports, visas, or immigration documents when they are destroyed by a major disaster. Currently, the State Department and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services can choose to waive these replacement fees, but this bill would require them to waive the fees when documents are destroyed in disasters where FEMA provides assistance through its Individuals and Households Program. The agencies must tell the public about these waivers on their websites and report to Congress each year about how many fee waivers they granted and how much it cost.
