Wildfire Response Improvement Act

This bill changes how the government helps with wildfire costs and recovery. Currently, the Fire Management Assistance Grant Program only pays for firefighting costs while the fire is actually burning. The bill would expand this to also cover safety assessments and emergency repairs after the fire ends. The bill also requires FEMA to update how it decides which wildfire prevention projects are worth funding and to create new guidance for communities dealing with wildfire damage, including problems with contaminated drinking water.
