Gun Trafficker Detection Act

This bill requires gun owners to report lost or stolen firearms to federal or local law enforcement within 48 hours of discovering they are missing. Gun owners who don't report would face fines starting at $1,000 for the first time, and repeat violations could result in higher fines and temporary bans on buying new firearms. The bill also makes it a crime to lie when reporting a lost or stolen gun, with penalties including possible jail time. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives would create a website where people can make these reports, and states would be required to use some of their federal grant money to collect and manage this information.
