NIH Reform Act

This bill would break up the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) into three smaller institutes, each focused on a different area: allergic diseases, infectious diseases, and immunologic diseases. Right now, the head of NIAID is chosen by the director of the National Institutes of Health, but under this bill, the President would choose the leaders of the three new institutes instead. The bill also says the Senate would need to approve those new directors, as well as the director of the National Cancer Institute.
