Equality Act

This bill would make it illegal to discriminate against people based on their sex, sexual orientation, or gender identity in many areas of life. It would apply these protections to businesses that serve the public, workplaces, housing, schools, and programs that get federal money. The bill expands existing civil rights laws to specifically include sexual orientation and gender identity as protected characteristics. It also broadens the definition of sex discrimination to include things like sex stereotypes, pregnancy, and gender identity.
