ALERT Communities Act

This bill creates programs to help develop and use test strips that can detect dangerous drugs like fentanyl and xylazine. It expands existing grants that help first responders treat opioid overdoses to also include funding for these rapid test strips. The bill requires the Department of Health and Human Services to create guidance for companies making test strips and to study how using these test strips affects overdose rates and whether people seek treatment for drug problems.
