Truck Parking Safety Improvement Act

The Department of Transportation would give competitive grants to states, cities, tribal governments, and local governments to build public parking for commercial trucks. These parking facilities must be on or near federal highways or freight facilities. The grants can only be used if there is a shortage of truck parking in the area, local officials have talked with truckers and safety officials about the project, and the project would likely improve truck parking availability, freight movement, or highway safety. Grant recipients cannot charge truck drivers fees to use these publicly funded parking facilities, and the Transportation Department must try to spread new truck parking across different parts of the country.
