EMPSA Act

This bill changes how Supplemental Security Income (SSI) works for adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities who are married. Currently, when these individuals apply for SSI, the government counts their spouse's income and resources when deciding if they qualify and how much money they receive. This bill would stop counting the spouse's income and resources for these decisions. SSI is a federal program that provides money to help aged, blind, and disabled people with limited income meet their basic needs.
