Closing the De Minimis Loophole Act

Right now, packages shipped into the U.S. that are worth $800 or less can come in without any tariffs, fees, or taxes. This bill would immediately end that benefit for goods coming from China and would end it for goods from all other countries 120 days after the bill becomes law. During that 120-day period, the Department of the Treasury would have to create new rules to make sure the right duties, fees, and taxes are properly collected on these smaller shipments. The bill also requires Treasury to set up fees and procedures so that packages sent through the mail are treated the same as packages shipped through other delivery services.
