SPEED for BEAD Act

This bill changes rules for a federal program that gives money to states to expand internet access. The program currently prefers fiber internet projects, but this bill would let any internet technology qualify for funding as long as it meets performance standards. The bill also stops states from controlling internet prices when they use this federal money and prevents federal agencies from requiring things like climate change considerations or diversity requirements for these projects. The bill also changes the program's name from including "Equity" to "Expansion."
