To direct the Secretary of Defense to develop a strategy to treat obesity as a disease and reduce the prevalence of obesity in certain Armed Forces, and for other purposes.

This bill requires the Department of Defense to create a plan that treats obesity as a medical disease in its programs. The Defense Department must also run an education campaign to help military members understand, diagnose, and treat obesity as a disease. The bill makes the Defense Department include information about weight standard problems in reports to Congress about military enlistment issues, disabilities, and medical discharges. Additionally, the Defense Department must report to Congress on how obesity affects military readiness and recommend solutions, while other offices must analyze existing military nutrition and obesity programs.
