SHARKED Act of 2025

This bill requires the Department of Commerce to create a task force to study and address shark depredation, which is when sharks take fish directly off fishing lines before fishermen can bring them in. The task force must include representatives from fishing management councils, marine fisheries commissions, coastal state fish and wildlife agencies, researchers, and other experts. The task force will work to improve coordination between fishing managers and shark researchers, identify research priorities and funding, develop management strategies, and create educational materials. The task force must report its findings to Congress within two years and then every two years after that until it ends in seven years.
