North Dakota Trust Lands Completion Act of 2026

This bill lets North Dakota trade certain state-owned lands that are located inside Indian reservations for federal land of similar value elsewhere in North Dakota. These state lands were originally given to North Dakota by Congress when it became a state, and the state uses them to make money for education and other public purposes through oil, gas, and farming leases. Under this bill, if a tribe asks, the federal government must hold the traded land within the reservation in trust for that tribe. The bill also says that any cattle grazing already happening on the traded land can continue.
