Clergy Act

This bill creates a two-year period when certain clergy members and Christian Science practitioners can cancel their previous exemption from Social Security and Medicare taxes on their religious work earnings. Currently, these individuals can get a permanent exemption from the IRS if they have religious objections to public insurance programs, but they cannot change this decision later and won't receive Social Security or Medicare benefits when they retire unless they earned credits from other jobs. The IRS must create a plan to tell eligible clergy and Christian Science practitioners that they can now cancel their previous exemptions.
