SAFETY Act of 2025

This bill requires the Department of Agriculture to work with trade officials to protect the right of American food producers to use common food names when selling products overseas. The bill defines common names as names typically used and found on food packaging, like "parmesan," "bratwurst," "basmati," and beer terms like "pale ale." The Agriculture Department and U.S. Trade Representative must negotiate agreements with other countries to ensure American producers can continue using these names for their products in foreign markets. They must report to Congress twice a year on their progress with these efforts.
