NO FAKES Act of 2025

This bill creates a new federal right that protects people from having their voice or appearance used in digital copies of them — like content made with artificial intelligence — without their permission. This right lasts even after a person dies and can be licensed to others, but it cannot be permanently signed away while the person is alive. Anyone who creates or shares these unauthorized digital copies can be sued, though certain uses like news reporting, sports broadcasts, and satire are allowed. The bill also sets up a process for getting unauthorized digital copies taken down and replaces most state laws on this topic, except for state laws that were already in place before January 2, 2025.
