Water Rights Protection Act

This bill stops the Interior Department and Agriculture Department from making people give up their water rights to get federal land permits or leases. The agencies cannot require water users, including Indian tribes, to get water rights in the name of the United States as a condition for land agreements. The bill also prevents these agencies from putting extra limits on when, where, or how much water people can use beyond what state laws already require. Federal agencies must follow state water laws and cannot take actions that hurt states' authority to permit water use or settle water rights disputes.
