Assault Weapons Ban of 2025

This bill would make it illegal to import, sell, make, transfer, or own semiautomatic assault weapons and large capacity ammunition feeding devices. The ban has exceptions for certain types of firearms like manually operated guns, antique firearms, and specific rifle and shotgun models listed in the bill. Law enforcement officers and retired officers can still possess these items, and they can be used for certain official tests and nuclear security purposes. People who already own these weapons before the law takes effect can keep them but must store them securely, and any private sales would require background checks. People who already own large capacity ammunition devices can keep them but cannot sell or transfer them to others. The bill also allows state and local governments to use federal grant money to buy back these weapons from people who want to surrender them.
