DEFENSE Act

This bill lets the Department of Homeland Security or the Department of Justice give state or local police officers the power to deal with drones that are seen as threats near stadiums, large outdoor events with at least 100,000 people, or other public gatherings with special flight restrictions. These officers could track drones, warn their operators, take control of drones, or even disable or destroy them if needed, but they must first complete special training. The bill also requires federal oversight of how this authority is used and limits the equipment officers can use to only approved systems on a list maintained by federal agencies.
