Import Security and Fairness Act

Right now, packages worth $800 or less can be shipped into the United States without paying tariffs or taxes and with very little inspection. This bill would take away that benefit for products coming from countries that the government says don't operate on fair market principles (like China and Russia) and countries that don't do enough to protect intellectual property rights (like Argentina and Indonesia). The bill would also require U.S. Customs and Border Protection to gather more information about low-value shipments and sets up new rules for handling goods that are held up at the border.
