Fisher House Availability Act of 2026

This bill would let more people stay for free at Fisher Houses, which are lodging facilities near VA and non-VA medical centers. Right now, veterans and certain other people can stay there when getting treatment or accompanying someone who is. The bill would expand this to include active-duty military members and their families, as well as veterans' family members, when any of them need to travel a long distance for medical care — as long as space is available. The bill also extends a rule that limits pension amounts for certain veterans who are hospitalized or living in institutions, pushing that rule's end date to July 31, 2033.
