LNG Public Interest Determination Act of 2025

This bill changes the rules for companies that want to export natural gas from the United States. Currently, companies must get permission from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, and exports are allowed if they serve the public interest. Under this bill, companies would need to get permission from the Department of Energy instead. Before approving any exports, the Department of Energy would have to make sure the exports won't significantly contribute to climate change, won't greatly increase energy prices for Americans, and won't create unfair health or environmental problems for rural, low-income, minority, and other vulnerable communities. The bill also requires full environmental reviews for natural gas exports, removing an exemption that previously allowed these exports to skip detailed environmental studies.
