Enhanced Background Checks Act of 2025

This bill changes the rules for background checks when a licensed gun dealer sells a firearm to someone who isn't a licensed dealer. Right now, if a background check isn't finished within 3 business days, the dealer can go ahead and complete the sale, but this bill increases that waiting period to at least 10 business days. If the check is still not done after 10 business days, the buyer can ask for a final decision on whether they're allowed to have a gun, and if another 10 days pass with no answer, the dealer can complete the sale. The bill also requires reports on whether the longer waiting period stopped people who aren't allowed to have guns from getting them, how many people asked for final decisions on their eligibility, and what other changes to the background check process could help protect victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.
