Commission to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African Americans Act

This bill creates a commission to study reparations for African Americans. The commission would gather evidence about slavery in the United States and study how federal and state governments supported slavery. It would also look at discriminatory laws and policies that affected freed slaves and their descendants. The commission would then recommend ways the U.S. could recognize and fix the effects of slavery and discrimination, including through a formal apology and compensation. The commission would be made up of people from civil society and reparations organizations, plus people chosen by the President and Congress leaders, and it would have 18 months to complete a final report.
