Preventing Our Next Natural Disaster Act

This bill changes a FEMA grant program that helps communities prepare for disasters before they happen. The bill increases the amount of money FEMA can set aside for these grants from 6% to 15% of certain disaster funds. It gives extra federal funding help to environmental justice communities and small poor communities, covering 90% of their project costs. The bill requires FEMA to focus on helping high-risk communities, environmental justice communities, and places with low tax revenue or poor building codes. FEMA would also need to help communities plan projects, reach out to communities about available grants, and create a database to track all disaster-related spending by different government agencies.
