Stop Hate Crimes Act of 2025

Right now, federal law makes it a hate crime to hurt someone or try to hurt them with a dangerous weapon because of things like their race or religion. To prove a hate crime, the government currently has to show that the crime would not have happened if not for the victim's race, religion, or other protected characteristic. This bill changes that rule so the government only has to show that the victim's protected characteristic was one of the reasons that motivated the crime, even if it wasn't the only reason.
