MAWS Act of 2026

This bill creates a pilot program where the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) would help buy blue catfish caught in the Chesapeake Bay area. NOAA would work with pet food and animal feed companies to purchase these fish from watermen and seafood processors at prices determined by considering market factors and input from participants. The bill also requires NOAA to work with other partners to estimate how many blue catfish are in the Chesapeake Bay area and make this information public before starting the program.
