Drought Assistance Improvement Act

This bill changes two government programs that help farmers during disasters. The Livestock Forage Disaster Program currently gives one payment to livestock owners after eight straight weeks of severe drought, but this bill would allow one payment after just four weeks and two payments after eight weeks. The Emergency Assistance program helps farmers who raise livestock, bees, and fish when they have losses from bad weather or other problems, and this bill adds crawfish farmers to the program so they can get help if drought or bad weather ruins their harvest. The government agency that runs these programs must create new rules for collecting information about crawfish farming and defining when losses happen due to drought.
