Resident Physician Shortage Reduction Act of 2025

This bill increases the number of medical residency positions that Medicare will pay for at hospitals. It adds 2,000 new positions each year from 2026 to 2032, with each hospital able to get up to 75 extra positions total. One-third of these new positions must go to hospitals that already have more residents than their current limits allow. The bill also requires a government report on ways to make the healthcare workforce more diverse, including better representation from rural, low-income, and minority communities.
