Healthy SNAP Act of 2025

This bill would change what foods people can buy with SNAP benefits (food stamps). Under the new rules, SNAP benefits could not be used to buy soft drinks, candy, ice cream, or prepared desserts like cakes, pies, and cookies. The Department of Agriculture would create a list of approved foods that contain nutrients many Americans don't get enough of and that promote health based on nutrition science. The approved foods would have appropriate amounts of fat, sugar, and salt, and the list would be updated at least every five years. States could swap in different but nutritionally similar foods to accommodate different cultural eating patterns.
