Protecting Infrastructure Investments for Rural America Act

This bill changes the rules for a government grant program that helps pay for roads, bridges, and other transportation projects in rural areas. Currently, rural areas are defined as places outside cities with more than 200,000 people, but this bill would change that to places outside cities with more than 30,000 people. The bill creates special rules for very small communities with 5,000 people or fewer, allowing the federal government to pay up to 90% of project costs in these areas and requiring at least 5% of the program's money to go to these small communities. It also removes a limit on how much money can be spent on smaller grants and allows the grants to be used for projects that help local economic development.
