PILLAR Act

This bill extends a federal grant program that helps state, local, and tribal governments improve their cybersecurity through 2035. The program now covers more types of computer systems, including those that use artificial intelligence and operational technology systems used by these governments. Grant recipients cannot use the money to buy cybersecurity products that don't meet federal agency guidelines, and governments that set up certain security tools by a specific deadline can get more federal funding to cover costs. The bill also requires grant recipients to report on how they plan to continue paying for cybersecurity programs after the federal grants end, and it requires a federal agency to reach out to small and rural local governments about free cybersecurity help.
