Lawsuit Abuse Reduction Act of 2025

This bill changes the rules about what happens when someone files a lawsuit or legal paperwork in federal court that is frivolous, baseless, or filed for an improper purpose. Right now, judges can choose whether to punish the person who filed such paperwork, and that person has 21 days to fix or withdraw the filing before facing consequences. This bill would make those punishments mandatory instead of optional, require that the person who was wrongly targeted be paid back for their costs including lawyer fees, and remove the 21-day window to fix or withdraw the filing.
