Motor Carrier Safety Selection Standard Act of 2024

This bill sets rules for brokers and other companies that hire trucking companies to ship goods. It requires them to check that the trucking company is properly registered with the Department of Transportation, has the required insurance, and meets federal safety standards. If they complete these checks, they would be considered to have acted responsibly if someone later sues them for picking an unsafe trucking company. The bill also requires the Department of Transportation to update its rules for deciding whether a trucking company is safe enough to operate, and it exempts individual shippers who own the goods being transported from these verification requirements.
