LOCAL Foods Act of 2025

This bill changes the rules about meat inspection for people who raise and slaughter animals for their own personal use. Right now, if you raise an animal and slaughter it yourself for your family, guests, or employees, you don't have to follow certain federal meat inspection requirements. This bill expands that rule so that a group of people or a community can share ownership of an animal and still qualify for the same exemption. It also lets owners hire someone to help with the slaughtering, preparing, or transporting of the meat, as long as the owner keeps track of and maintains control over the meat.
