Community Protection and Wildfire Resilience Act

This bill creates a new grant program through the U.S. Fire Administration to help state and local governments, tribes, and volunteer fire departments develop wildfire protection plans or carry out projects to make communities safer from wildfires. It also expands an existing U.S. Forest Service grant program to allow funding for making buildings more fire-resistant, such as upgrading roofs or installing fire-resistant siding, which was previously not allowed. The bill requires the U.S. Fire Administration to create a map showing which communities are at risk from wildfires and to study whether public agencies have adequate radio communication systems for managing wildfires. Additionally, it directs the Government Accountability Office to study certification options for wildfire protection plans and examine barriers to federal wildfire programs.
