Thalidomide Survivors Compensation Act of 2025

This bill creates a program to pay $150,000 to people who were harmed by a drug called thalidomide, which was once given to pregnant women for nausea but was found to cause serious birth defects. To receive the money, a person must submit a request to the Department of Health and Human Services by May 31, 2034, along with proof from a health professional that thalidomide caused their injury, and they must have been a U.S. citizen or permanent resident both when they were exposed and when they applied. The program may also provide extra money for ongoing medical or other needs if funds are available. The compensation would not count as income for federal taxes or when determining eligibility for programs that help low-income people.
