Grant’s Law

This bill requires the government to hold non-U.S. citizens who are in the country illegally and get arrested for certain crimes that could lead to deportation. The Department of Homeland Security can let local authorities handle the criminal case, but must keep custody of the person when local authorities are not holding them. Even if the person is not convicted of the crimes they were arrested for, the government must keep holding them until deportation proceedings are finished, which must happen within 90 days.
