Right to Read Act of 2025

This bill extends funding through 2030 for two existing programs that help schools teach reading and writing skills to students from kindergarten through 12th grade. It allows schools to use certain federal grant money to hire and keep school librarians, and to create programs that teach students digital and information literacy skills. The bill requires the Department of Education to collect information about school libraries every two years and requires states and school districts receiving federal money to promise they will protect students' First Amendment rights in school libraries and follow equal protection laws. It also protects teachers, librarians, school leaders, and other staff from legal liability when they follow state or local policies about students' right to read.
