WISER Act of 2025

This bill creates programs to help women veterans who were forced to leave military service between 1951 and 1976 because they became pregnant, gave birth, adopted children, or became step-parents. The Department of Veterans Affairs must create a program to upgrade these women's discharge records, and the Department of Defense must provide them with a one-time payment of $25,000. Women who get upgraded discharge records will be treated as if they completed their full military service for benefits purposes. Veterans must apply for these programs, and if a veteran dies after the bill becomes law, their surviving spouse can still apply for the compensation.
