EAT Healthy Foods from Local Farmers Act

This bill changes a federal food assistance program so that the government can give money to states to buy healthy foods like fruits, vegetables, meats, and grains from small local farms and businesses, and then distribute those foods to people in need. The small businesses that qualify include those owned by women, veterans, or beginning farmers, as well as small or mid-sized family farms. The bill also requires the Department of Agriculture to set up a team across its agencies to look at how the government buys food and find ways to support more types of farmers and food distributors while also improving nutrition, strengthening local food systems, and creating jobs in rural areas.
