Ensuring Access to General Surgery Act of 2026

This bill requires a federal health agency called HRSA to study whether people in underserved communities have enough access to general surgeons. The study would look at whether the current system for identifying areas with doctor shortages does a good job of measuring access to surgeons, and whether a better method could be used. HRSA would also have to publish information comparing the availability of general surgery services in urban, suburban, and rural areas. Based on what the study finds, HRSA could create a system for officially identifying areas that don't have enough general surgeons and publish a list of those areas.
