TEMP Act

This bill tells the federal crop insurance program to research and develop a new type of insurance policy based on temperature. This policy would protect certain crops like tomatoes, peppers, sugarcane, strawberries, melons, citrus, peaches, and blueberries from losses caused by frost or cold weather. Unlike regular insurance where farmers file claims after damage occurs, this temperature-based policy would automatically pay out when temperatures reach certain low levels. The research must look at how well these tools work for rare but major weather disasters and create a policy that covers either lost crops or lost money from those crops.
