287(g) Program Protection Act

This bill would require the Department of Homeland Security to let qualified state and local police agencies help enforce immigration laws if they ask for this authority. Currently, the Department can choose whether to grant this authority, but under this bill, they could only say no if there is a compelling reason. The Department would also have to write yearly reports about how these enforcement activities are working and their plans to expand the program to more areas.
