Federal Extreme Risk Protection Order Act of 2026

This bill creates a system where family members, household members, or law enforcement officers can ask a federal court to temporarily stop someone from buying or having guns if that person is considered a risk to themselves or others. It also sets up a grant program through the Department of Justice to help states, local governments, and tribal nations create and run their own similar programs. The bill would make it a federal restriction for anyone under one of these orders to receive, have, ship, or transport guns and ammunition. It also requires the FBI to collect and keep records from courts and agencies that show who is currently under one of these orders.
